Artist Statement
I want to paint paintings that tell you a story and a secret.
When I look at the clouds and the sky I try to imagine how deep the space inside our body is and that our body is an oddly shaped box for moving this vast space around. When I paint I think about containers, vessels, and vehicles.
Art is a record of our culture. By accident I stumbled onto a book about the history of the circus and I was fascinated that through their travels the circus brought exotic animals to the semi rural communities of the past. I am particularly drawn to monkeys and the various tricks they perform.
